In our lifetime, G-d willing . . .

The ramifications of the next 25 years will be critical
Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics recently reported that 5.4 million Jews live in Israel, while the number of U.S. Jews is apparently less - between 5.1 and 5.3 million.

However, Professor Sergio Della Pergola, head of the Center for Contemporary Judaism, told the Knesset Immigration Committee that there could be 5.3 million Jews in Israel, and 5.4 million in the U.S. In any event, Pergola said, within three years Israel will certainly have more Jews than the United States.

In addition, he predicts, within 25 years or so, more than half of the world's Jews will live in Israel. The Halakhic [Jewish legal] ramifications of that will be critical, as many commandments such as installing a King, rebuilding the Holy Temple, and others are contingent upon having an absolute majority of the world's Jews in Israel.
