Israel's obsession with concession

AGRH! I can't stand it anymore! I just found out that the 100 HAMAS terrorists being released are in addition to some 400 other Palestinian prisoners whose release has already been approved (Herb Keinon, JPost).

Israel is removing roadblocks: (1) between Ramallah and Jerusalem, (2) between Ramallah and Nablus, and (3) between Bethlem and Hebron.

Israel is opening the Nablus-Jenin route to public transportation and considering opening a bypass near Morag junction in Gaza.

Israeli is transferring two more "West Bank" cities to PA control -- details to be announced early in the week.

Israel is giving out 8,500 work permits to Palestinians to enter Israel.

Tourists will be allowed into Bethlehem.

Israel is transferring NIS 72 million to the PA from frozen funds held by the Airports Authority(?).

Meanwhile, what about Palestinian obligations and performance?
The Department for Jewish Zionist Education of The Jewish Agency for Israel provides the full text of the road map, with highlights and annotations. Note the following quotes:
"A two state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will only be achieved through an end to violence and terrorism, when the Palestinian people have a leadership acting decisively against terror . . . "

"The settlement will resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and end the occupation that began in 1967 . . . "

"Phase I: Ending Error and Violence . . .(Present to May 2003): In Phase I, the Palestinians immediately undertake an unconditional cessation of violence . . . accompanied by supportive measures undertaken by Israel."

(Also Phase I) "Palestinians undertake comprehensive political reform in preparation for statehood, including drafting a Palestinian constitution, and free, fair and open elections."
Have you read the new constitution? To my knowledge, there is none. And please note, Arafat was elected to a term that ended some years ago. Oh yeah, and there's more:
"Palestinian leadership issues unequivocal statement reiterating Israel's right to exist in peace and security."

"Palestinians declare an unequivocal end to violence and terrorism and undertake visible efforts on the ground to arrest, disrupt, and restrain individuals and groups conducting and plannign violent attacks on Israelis anywhere."

"Arab states cut off public and private funding and all other forms of support for groups supporting and engaging in violence and terror."

Palestinian quotes: read them and weep
Abu Mazen: Yasser Arafat "is the leader of the Palestinian people . . . I cannot be independent." --Palestine Media Center.

"In talks with US officials . . . Palestinians say Abbas got much of what they wanted: Better relations with Washington, pledges to press Israel on crucial issues, broad US willingness to hear Palestinian grievances" -- PMC, as above.

Abu Mazen, regarding the Bush administration's "request" to dismantle HAMAS and Islamic Jihad: "Why should we go to civil war against our own people?"

Of the road map, he said, "We are not going to miss this opportunity. We are going to grasp this opportunity." --ABC News Online.
You betcha.
