HUDNA ATTACK: Israeli mother, three children wounded in terrorist shooting

Four Israelis, a mother and three children were wounded when shots were fired at their vehicle near Wallajeh, close to the western entrance to the Har Gilo neighborhood on Sunday evening. The attack occurred just hours after the government announced its intention to release 430 Palestinian security prisoners.

The family was traveling on the Wallajeh bypass road that links Gush Etzion to south Jerusalem not far from the Malha Mall and the Technological Gardens. Magen David Adom official Zaki Heller said crews sent to the site treated a 39-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest and her 9-year-old daughter, who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. The two, whose conditions were described as serious to moderate, were transferred to Hadassah Hospital in Ein Kerem.

Two other children, a 14-year-old girl and her twelve-year-old brother, were treated at the site. The teenager was later transferred to hospital.

The family resides in Har Gilo and according to initial reports the father, who was not wounded in the attack, was driving the vehicle when the shooting occurred.

It is the first shooting attack in the area since Israel handed over to the Palestinian Authority security control of the city of Bethlehem and the surrounding environs. In recent weeks, senior IDF officials noted that since receiving security control of the area, Palestinian security officials have done nothing to combat terror, neither confiscating weapons nor arresting terrorists in the area.
