May their families and friends be comforted among all the mourners of Zion and Yerushalayim.

Haaretz: The three soldiers from the Duchifat battalion were conducting a patrol on foot when they were ambushed by three gunmen who were hiding behind a low concrete wall. The gunmen surprised the patrol, firing at close range with M-16 and Kalashnikov assault rifles, Israel Radio reported late Sunday.

The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a militant off-shoot of Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement, claimed responsibility for the attack.

A top political source said Sunday night that the attack will hasten the decision-making process concerning the fate of the Palestinian leadership, adding that it seemed as though Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat was inviting a harsh Israeli response, Israel Radio reported.

DEBKAfile reveals exclusively: Attack was executed by Jemal Tirawi and paid for directly by Yasser Arafat.

I was going to quote George Orwell here: "We sleep safely in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would harm us" - but it seems he never said it. Someone should.
