NYC Mayor in Israel to make major donation to hospital

Newsday: JERUSALEM -- New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his 94-year-old mother toured the pediatric wing of Jerusalem's Hadassah-Ein Kerem Hospital on Monday to dedicate three new floors he is donating to the facility.

The mayor's gift will allow the pediatric center to build three new floors. The center, which has six floors now, treats children with cancer and has units for high-risk pregnancy and fetal therapy, as well as a department of pediatric psychiatry. Construction of the three new floors is to be completed by 2006. The entire building is to be named the Charlotte R. Bloomberg Mother and Child Center, after the mayor's mother.

. . . Bloomberg praised Hadassah's equal treatment of Jews, Muslims and Christians. "If we could do that throughout the world, we could end terrorism," he said.
