Clinton backs Sharon's plan, but . . .

AFP: Former US president Bill Clinton welcomed Israel's plan to withdraw from the Gaza Strip but warned that a negotiated settlement remained the only viable path to lasting peace in the Middle East. . . .

. . . he argued that the perceived absence of a Palestinian leadership with which Israel feels it can negotiate should not be used an excuse to abandon peace talks altogether.

"When the music starts and you go out on the dance floor and you dance alone because you can't find any attractive partners, you're still dancing alone," he said.

"If you live in a world where you have adversaries and you cannot kill them all or jail them all, or occupy and control them all, then sooner or later you have to make a deal."

Nice try at a metaphor, but it's not about dancing, it's about killing. It's not about how attractive a partner is, but about how vehemently that partner wants to kill you:
April 18, 2004: In a communique . . .[Arafat's] Fatah's Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades stated: "All the fighting [Palestinian] factions are called upon to cause an earthquake to the Zionist enemy. The occupation will pay a price for its crimes, and everyone in the Zionist entity is now a target, even children. They will pay, in blood . . . "(AL-HAYAT AL-JADIDA, PA, 4/18/04)
