Irish Foreign Minister and EU President, Brian Cowen:

"Israeli forces showed a reckless disregard for human life"

DUBLIN (AFP) - Irish Foreign Minister Brian Cowen, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, condemned Israel's military operation in Rafah as "reckless disregard for human life."
"It is clear that today's action was completely disproportionate to any threat faced by the Israeli military and that Israeli forces showed a reckless disregard for human life," he said Wednesday.

Israel replied with a statement that it was "sickened" by these comments. "Outraged" would have been a better term, but unfortunately, it might not have been accurate.

Meanwhile, French President Jacques Chirac has enlightened us all, saying that human rights must be respected in the fight against terrorism.
