Israel Appoints Arab Christian to Supreme Court

Haaretz: Israel's Judicial Appointments Committee Thursday selected Acting Justice Salim Jubran for appointment to the Supreme Court.

Jubran's selection was the first permanent appointment of an Arab Supreme Court justice.

Jubran, 57, was born in Haifa to a Maronite Christian Arab family. At 35, he was appointed a Magistrate's Court judge, in 1993 he was promoted to the city's district court, and he received a temporary appointment to the Supreme Court bench in 2003.
