Pro/Anti Israel Protests in San Francisco

(KCBS) --Two groups of demonstrators with very different views on Israel faced off in downtown San Francisco Saturday.

KCBS reporter Matt Bigler at Justin Herman Plaza demonstrators began to gather around 1 p.m. with several hundred anti war protestors rallying to end the U.S. occupation of Iraq (news - web sites) and they are also speaking out against Israel. "They are building the security fence, 25 feet and it's taken over 50-percent of Palestinian land," said one protestor.

But statements like that prompted a pro-Israel group to hold its own rally right next to the anti war, anti-Israel one though a much smaller crowd.

Dr. Daniel Kleinmann is with Voice for Israel. "We will no longer let them slander the state of Israel, look for the annihilation of the state of Israel and we want to let them know that we will be here every time," he said.

San Francisco Police officers also stood by intervene should the need arise.
