Saudi newspaper reports Iran massing troops on Iraqi border

Maariv: The Saudi daily Al-Sharq al-Awsat has reported an Iranian build up of troops on the Iraqi border. The paper claims this is part of Iranian preparations to invade Iraq after US troops leave. The ostensible justification is to prevent a security vacuum from developing.

Al-Sharq al-Awsat quoted "reliable Iraqi sources" as saying, "Iran moved part of its regular military forces towards the Iraqi border in the southern sector at a time its military intelligence agents were operating inside Iraqi territory."

This comes in the middle of a renewed crisis between Teheran and the UN over Iran’s less than full cooperation regarding inspections of its nuclear development program.

Earlier today Iran threatened to reassess its decision to cooperate with UN inspectors, monitoring the program to ensure Iran is not clandestinely developing a nuclear arsenal.
